The Philosophy of The PragmaticsPhilosophy 17th November, 2007With an unflappable character like Fate and the unseemingly random Murphy, it was down to Karma to pull things together. Some might say that she added a feminine dimension to the band's creativity. Others would say that it was Karma's influence that really drove The Pragmatics to look outside of the conventional and try pushing back the boundaries of music, their own states of mind and the philosophy they projected on the world. While, to Fate, songwriting came from within. It was something that just existed. At it's source it never changed. It was pre-determined. Murphy was a complete contrast but was similar to Fate in that his erratic drumming and novel attitude towards songwriting seemed to come from pure chance. He could not explain why he would play a roll here, a crash there, but with the rest of the band it was a perfect fit and unlike anything that had ever been performed. Karma's philosophy, the female touch, forced her band members to become more aware of the human elements within and around the band. Her positive lyrics made everyone feel warm and happy. She looked to a future that was as good as it could be, while seeing a present in which man treated everyone with respect and was treated the way they wished to be treated themselves. ... |
