The Philosophy of The PragmaticsPhilosophy 17th November, 2007With an unflappable character like Fate and the unseemingly random Murphy, it was down to Karma to pull things together. Some might say that she added a feminine dimension to the band's creativity. Others would say that it was Karma's influence that really drove The Pragmatics to look outside of the conventional and try pushing back the boundaries of music, their own states of mind and the philosophy they projected on the world. While, to Fate, songwriting came from within. It was something that just existed. At it's source it never changed. It was pre-determined. Murphy was a complete contrast but was similar to Fate in that his erratic drumming and novel attitude towards songwriting seemed to come from pure chance. He could not explain why he would play a roll here, a crash there, but with the rest of the band it was a perfect fit and unlike anything that had ever been performed. Karma's philosophy, the female touch, forced her band members to become more aware of the human elements within and around the band. Her positive lyrics made everyone feel warm and happy. She looked to a future that was as good as it could be, while seeing a present in which man treated everyone with respect and was treated the way they wished to be treated themselves. ... The instrumental sessions with Fate on guitar and Murphy on drums caused a sensation in neighborhood. People passing by would stop and listen to the sweet sound.
One of the passers-by was Karma. Karma knew he had something to offer, he liked the music and wanted to join in. He knocked on the door and sat down with Fate and Murphy for a joint. The three started chatting and it happened that they all got on. They talked about music and poetry and when Karma read some words he'd written Fate asked him to sing along to their next jam. With Murphy's eclectic drumming and Fate's weaving and winding chords, Karma's soulful poetry was a instant fit. Righteous words from the heart. Welcome to The Pragmatics Band Website! Fans of one of THE truly great rock bands to have ever tuned up and strike up a chord will know that a tribute site has been well overdue. We'll keep you updated with the band's current information and news. We'll look for where The Pragmatics' influence has spread across the globe and we'll interview the three original members as well as bit-players in The Pragmatics' global domination. The original band members of The Pragmatics are Karma (lead singer), Fate (lead guitar) and Murphy (drummer). They are joined by other musicians on various tracks but the core of the group has remained the same for many years. They are the longest playing band in the history of the universe! |
